What does it truly take to grow your business?

There is no magic bullet to growing a business, it takes hard work, dedication and consistency. It takes huge effort in the beginning and can mean wearing many hats and this can lead to you not knowing where to spend your time and efforts to achieve the growth you desire.

If you are struggling a bit right now, there is light at the end of the tunnel. If you buckle down, clear your mind, and just look at things in perspective, you can easily identify ways you can grow your business and make more money quickly.

While I am sure there are already a lot of suggestions on the ‘right’ strategy to grow your business, here are my tried and tested suggestions on ways to support your growth journey.

1. Know the direction you are heading
Know where you are heading and ensure you have a milestone plan in order to get there. Think short, medium and long term. You should also have sales and performance goals mapped to that plan, so you can clearly see your path and know you are heading in the right direction.

2. Collaboration

Collaboration comes in many forms:
a) Those that are on the same path as you that you can collaborate with to reach and serve your ideal clients
b) Those that can help you with areas that you do not have expertise in, e.g. marketing, accounts, sales and so on.

c) Those people that can help to free up your time, e.g. VAs/Staff
Collaboration is very powerful, so do not be afraid to look for opportunities.

If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together!

3. Niche Customers
You need to be going after your STAR Customers:

When you are growing a business you need to have razor sharp focus on who you are selling to.

“Selling to everyone is like selling to no one at all.”

Whilst it can feel scary to focus on one or two STAR customers (ideal customers), it is the best way to scale Simply put, if you spread yourself too thinly, trying to get noticed by everyone, it just won’t happen. You need to be creating content that makes you visible to your STAR customers so it needs to talk their language, otherwise your will struggle to build the know, like, trust factor required to build traction and growth.

4. Marketing Messages
You can have the best product or service in the whole world, but if it isn’t getting noticed by you STAR client, then you may as well pack up shop!

5. Proposition your offer
When your potential customers are looking at what you do, it’s not always the best idea to dive in with a full-on perfect picture of what your client wants to achieve– You need to consider where they are at the present point on their transition journey and think about their next steps.

This means that instead of going all in with your ‘perfect’ solution, you think about revealing yourself and your services to them gradually, so they can get to know you and develop a trust in you and don’t feel overwhelmed – Remember a confused mind doesn’t buy.

6. A business growth mindset

Get comfortable with being uncomfortable! A business growth mindset is about moving out of your comfort zone and embracing the process you are going through and the person you are becoming – Learn to enjoy it, as it is moving you towards the life you want.

Remember you are running your own race, if you are happy with the direction you are going and your ego is content, then you are mostly on the right track to the success you deserve.

7. Consider the pace

If your business suddenly doubled overnight, would you have the support and resources to deal with and maintain this pace? Sudden success may sound amazing, but if you are not ready for it, it can be overwhelming and potential effect your brand. So, ensure that your customer experience still stacks up, your finances are controlled, and you have the right people in the right jobs.

8. Building relationships

You can not grow on your own – building good relationships with partners, customers, team members and suppliers is crucial for successful growth.

9. The power of good PR

One of the few marketing channels to continue to deliver successful results for businesses in the last 12 months is PR and the media.  A good PR strategy is a great way to build your brand and will dwarf the ROI of advertising and many other marketing efforts. PR carries 3 times more credibility and 6 times more visibility than any other form of marketing.
